is Professor of English and Cultural Studies at McMaster University, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. His research and teaching interests are wide-ranging. He is the author of Modern Poetry and Deconstruction (1988), Northrop Frye: A Visionary Life (1993), Melville, Shame and the Evil Eye (1997), and (with Hilary Clark) co-editor of Scenes of Shame (1999), a collection of essays on the intersection of literature, shame, and the emotions. He has published numerous articles and essays on literary theory and on nineteenth and twentieth-century fiction and poetry. Dr. Adamson is also co-editor (with Jean Wilson) of "The Secular Scripture" and Other Writings on Critical Theory, 1976-1991, vol. 18 of the Collected Works of Northrop Frye. He is currently working on a book-length study of emotion and literature.
